This edition of Hotspots will be looking at two new Cardiff businesses in the form of The Penylan Pantry and The Rollin' Hot Dog Co.

The Rollin' Hot Dog Co. was set up by Holly McDonald in late 2013 and has added a new element to the growing Cardiff street food scene. Jordan Harris of The Grill and Barrel is a big advocate for the street food trend in Cardiff saying, "The whole street food scene is so exciting and I'm hoping more stalls and carts pop up over Cardiff in the future. Holly's hot dog menu is a great and cheap alternate for lunch."

Cardiff blogger The Plate Licked Clean also commended Holly's efforts to ignite the street food scene in Cardiff, "The arrival of a new face is to be applauded. More so, when it's the product of a young person with drive."

Holly's isn't the only new business in Cardiff that's got people talking.

Then Penylan Pantry opened its doors just before the festive season and provides Cardiff with a deli that is fully committed to showcasing the best in local produce. Owners Melissa and Jolene strive to bring an alternate edge to the deli landscape, and not only do they provide gluten free cakes and treats, they stock an interesting culinary library with books that aren't readily available in the UK. Melissa is keen to see the deli meet the needs of local shoppers, 'We'd love it to become a one stop shop for our customers.'

With businesses with such dedication and passion for food such as these, Cardiff is in for a great
 2014.

You can follow both businesses on Facebook here and here.
