LOVE EVERY MOUTHFUL: CARDIFF LOVES SPAGHETTI BOLOGNESE
The results weren't surprising - everybody likes to cook the classics and Cardiff was no exception. In fact, Spaghetti Bolognese was the winning favourite and beat out other classics such as lasagne and a roast dinner.
The survey also reveled that Cardiffians are huge foodies, and watch two or more food programmes a week and own 10 or more cookbooks.
So to tie-in with this campaign. Tesco asked me to make their favourtie spaghetti bolognese recipe and share it with you:
30ml olive oil
400g beef mince
200ml beef stock
150ml red wine
1 large onion, finely chopped
400g chopped tomatoes
1 bay leaf
salt and ground black pepper to taste
300g dried spaghettie
I added a pinch of Cheyenne pepper for an extra kick.
Heat the oil in a large pan over a medium heat for 1 minutes. Add the onions with a little salt and sweat them for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Increase the heat and add the mince, browned, stir in the chopped tomatoes, then the stock and red wine and bring to the boil. The sauce will look quite thin at thin at this point but will thicken as it reduces.
Reduce the heat to a simmer and add the bay leaf. Cook for 45-50 minutes uncovered until the sauce has thickened, making sure to stir occasionally.
Once the sauce is ready, adjust the seasoning and keep warm. Cook the spaghetti in a large saucepan of boiling salted water according to packet instructions until 'al dente'. Drain and toss well.
Add cheese as desired
